The legend behind the T-Shirt: Princess Donají
Princess Donají (great soul), daughter of the Zapotec monarch ‘Cosijoeza’ and the queen ‘Coloyocaltzin’. In the war between Zapotecs and Mixtecs, Cosijoeza captured the Mixtec prince ‘Nucano’ (great fire). As an act of kindness Donaji set free the prince so he could keep fighting for his people, with the promise of doing all he could to stop the war.
The Mixtec army got stronger with the return of his prince, winning the Zapotecs biggest city, Zaachila; betraying the princess agreement. Therefore, peace negotiations began but Nucano didn’t trust the Zapotec king, so he requested taking Princess Donaji to Monte Alban as a guarantee.
Princess Donaji felt guilty for being fooled by the Prince, so she organised the biggest attack against the Mixtecs, from Monte Alban. The Zapotec army arrived at night taking the Mixtecs by surprise; during the attack the Princess tried to escape but she was murdered, and as a revenge they cut her head and buried it on an unknown location.
Years later, while someone was trying to pick up a flower, Princess Donaji’s intact head was found as if time hasn’t passed through it. That flower is Oaxaca city’s symbol, it’s in their shield, honouring the kind Princess that died for her people.
To how many you have given your power, letting them fool you?
